Notaries, as state appointed public officials, are reliable and essential partners of the state in the fight against money laundering (ML) and terrorism financing (TF). Preventing ML and TF has become a key responsibility of European notaries. The new European AML package will harmonize AML rules across the EU. This will create a level playing field and make the EU's joint efforts in combating ML/TF even more effective. To achieve this goal, the new AML package will establish a EU-wide single rulebook. This will have a significant impact on the notaries' profession. There is a high demand for training in this area; providing training on these topics is one of the main objectives of the Council of the Notariats of the European Union (CNUE). On 22 May 2025 a conference, organised by the CNUE and the Royal Dutch Association of Civil-law Notaries (KNB), was held in Maastricht as part of the EL@N II project, co-financed by the European Union. This book reflects the contents of the conference.
